Friday morning we went to Loves Door orphanage. They had received an ATV for transporting children in a container. They are located right on the banks of the Zambezi river. They currently have 11 orphans and are continuing to build. We then met Chile for lunch and he accompanied us the rest of the day. The well pump at Alfred's Livingston land had been out for a few weeks. Alfred looked and looked and finally connected with a man named Simeon who said he could repair hand pumps. We picked him up and loaded his tools in the car to journey the hour across bumpy roads to the broken pump. When we started to pull the pump, Brian and I were surprised to see that the pump was virtually the same as a windmill pump we repaired many times growing up! We have been talking about the need for someone to repair pumps for many years, and it turns out a couple of Kansas farm boys already had the knowledge to repair them. Simeon did an excellent job repairing the pump! He had all the necessary tools, and was very thorough and meticulous, something rarely seen in Zambia. While talking to Simeon throughout the day, he told us he was one of the first people in Zambia trained on pump repair and has been doing it since the mid 90's. He has worked with UNICEF and other organizations and has trained all of the people in the country on pump repair. We have learned over the years that finding the right person in Zambia is critical. And Simeon is one of those guys. We finished the pump right at dusk and there was a line starting to form to get fresh water. The smiles on everyone's faces was priceless. We came back to town in the dark and went to Come Go With Me mission house to spend the night.

Thursday started working out way towards Livingston. We first met with the Provincial Principal Secretary. He had seen the impact the goods in the containers had made in the Southern Province and was excited to meet Brian. We then went to Stanley's house to pray for his wife Evelyn. Evelyn has recently had 3 surgeries to remove a brain tumor. They think they were able to get all of the tumor on the 3rd attempt. She has lost some dexterity on her right side and her speech has been affected. She is slowly improving, but needs our continued prayers for healing. We stopped in Mukwela to see the church they are building. The walls are all up, but they still need a roof and a floor. The pastor is also raising chickens to sell to the local community and to restaurants in Kafue. Our next stop was Livingston. We stopped at Livingston PWC to see the chairs that were donated from Baker's Street Community Church. The chairs just filled the sanctuary and are very nice!

This morning we went to visit Darren and Diane's for breakfast. We then stopped by to check on Danforce and his family. They have 8 acres of maize and also are caring for some of Alfred's cattle. We then went to Siachitema Mission. Brian had paid to roof the new laboratory there. They have added some dormitories to house some students who are boarding. They had a program for us. The kids performed a dramatic poem, the choir sang and some of the younger kids performed a traditional dance. We ate lunch with some of them after the program. We met one of the PTA member who is a farmer. He would like to farm some of Alfred's land and he already has a tractor Answered prayer! We then took Brian's pickup out to give to Leonard. As we have come to expect, Leonard's maze is some of the best in the country. The whole family was very excited to receive the pickup. Brian gave Leonard and his son a quick checkout on how to operate the pickup. Then as we were leaving, Brian suggested I give him a little driving lesson. I showed him how to put it in gear. And he hit the gas in reverse and almost backed into a tree before he found the brake! Now I was a little nervous. We turned around in the yard and he almost sideswiped a tree! Then we headed down the trail and he was hugging the right side of the trail and his son and I had to keep "encouraging" him to turn left so we didn't t-bone a tree. It would have been nice to know before the driving lesson, that he didn't have a driver's license! After the driving lesson we headed back to Choma to eat dinner at Stanley and Evelyn's school. Dinner was once again the best meal in all of Zambia. Stanley's sister-in-law showed us the new boarding facility. It was the nicest, cleanest, best smelling dorm, I've ever seen. Stanley's wife is very ill with a brain tumor, so please keep her in your prayers.
